We have eight permanent resident elephants here at MEF. All the elephants have very different personalities but our herd of 4 girls Lakshmi, Rani , Seetha and Pooja get on very well with our boys Raja, Saliya, Kavari Raja and Bandara.

We hope that a visit to us and what you learn about these amazing creatures will mean that you fall in love with our elephants as much as we have, you may even like to adopt one! Funding goes directly into acquiring medicines and supporting the projects at MEF that benefit elephants all over Sri Lanka!

The number of elephants staying here at MEF varies throughout the year as we provide a rest point and veterinary assistance for elephants from over the island. A captive elephant will often travel for miles, either on foot or by truck to various events and we provide a place where they can take a break and refresh themselves.
