Sumana
Millennium Elephant Foundation recently suffered the the loss of our beloved Sumana who passed away 28th October 2011.
Sumana arrived at MEF in September 2008 requiring treatment for numerous wounds and sores caused by ill fitting working equipment and also suffered with arthritis. Every day since she arrived Sumana has been treated for her injuries and her condition had improved greatly. She spent most of her time relaxing after a gentle walk in the river where she could have a good lie down and the water took the pressure off her body. Sumana was a very gentle elephant who never complained no matter how often her wounds were cleaned or she had to have injections.
She also had a fantastic sense of fun and knew all sorts of tricks! She was a very popular elephant and all the volunteers and staff here fell for her charms. She was buried onsite at MEF where we hope she spent her happy final years. We will soon be creating the Sumana Memorial garden in her honour.
